《When we two parted》

When we two partedIn silence and tears,

Half broken-heartedTo sever for years,

Pale grew thy cheek and cold,

Colder thy kiss;

Truly that hour foretoldSorrow to this.

The dew of the morningSunk chill on my brow

—It felt like the warningOf what I feel now.

Thy vows are all broken,

And light is thy fame:

I hear thy name spoken,

And share in its shame.

They name thee before me,

A knell to mine ear;

A shudder comes o'er me

—Why wert thou so dear?

They know not I knew thee,

【赏析】

这首诗是诗人拜伦在述说他某段感情上的巨大的遗憾和悲伤。诗人 “悼念” 他难以弥补的损失：他不仅失去了让人难以自拔的浪漫爱情，而且也失去了他对爱情的天真无邪。

拜伦英俊帅气的外表和他诗中的男人形象（拜伦式的英雄），让他深受女性的追捧，因而他一生游走在女人中间，孜孜不倦地追求那永不逝去的、象春天一样的情爱和浪漫，一旦失去了这种爱，如同失去了一年中最好的时光 —— 春天，由此不难理解《春逝》翻译的含义，诗人是以一个受害者的身份（拜伦式的英雄）在讲述他遭被叛、被抛弃，失恋后爱恨交织在一起的感受。
